Which Pole should i buy?

Updated: Jul 2, 2024

Buying a new pole is a big step. You're investing in a significant chapter of your life. Now you’re probably asking yourself which kind of pole you should buy. There are different types of materials, and I will show you the differences, so you have an easier choice to make.

Static Pole or Spinning Pole?

If you have already gained some experience, you should already know the difference between the two. The static pole cannot spin. It is the perfect pole for beginners or those who want to try out pole dance or pole art. It gives you more stability and feels safer. You can also focus on building strong shapes and strength.

Usually, all spinning poles can be fixed to a static pole as well. So, I warmly recommend buying a spinning one. Of course, you may not stay a beginner your whole life, and you probably want to improve your skills eventually. For this moment, it is good to have a spinning pole already at home.

Which Material?

As you may know, there are a lot of materials on the market. Let's go through them.

Gold, Brass, Chrome

The most common and traditional material is chrome. It is, from my experience, the hardest to work on because your body is dancing on hard metal. So, you need to make sure to warm up yourself and your pole; otherwise, it will stay slippery and cold, especially in the winter season. In summer, you may struggle with your own sweat, so I recommend choosing training slots when it is not too hot in your apartment - like early mornings or evenings. Otherwise, the probability of accidents could increase.

But on the other hand, you work harder, which means you get stronger. It is perfect for building up strength and getting used to pole dance.

Not a big difference but still a difference in grip will be with a gold or brass pole. It is hard to say which one suits you best because it feels different for everybody. The best way to find out your favorite one is to visit a pole dance studio and try them all out. In most studios, they have more than one type of pole.

Powder or Silicone Pole?

A pole with powder or silicone - mostly in the colors black or pink - is a very sticky pole. It is a perfect pole for the stage. It has a nice sticky grip, where you have the feeling of an easier way to hold on to it. You probably use less energy and can focus on performance and pole flow. However, I personally wouldn’t buy it as a beginner because it is hard to work on other poles once you get used to this one. Also, with the powder pole, you don’t need to be half-naked and can work even with clothes on!

On the other hand, it causes more burns on your body because of the stickiness.
